Welcome!
The Kildonan School, located in scenic Dutchess County in New York State, is a school specifically designed to meet the needs of students with dyslexia or language based learning disabilities. Each fall, one hundred and forty intelligent girls and boys come to Kildonan from across the United States and abroad to enroll in an educational experience that is well tailored to their specific learning styles. While many Kildonan students have had success in other aspects of life—sports, art, jobs, and friendships—most have been frustrated in school. Students leave Kildonan with skills, strategies, confidence, and friendships that are the foundation for future success.
Kildonan offers programs for students entering grades 2-12 as well as a postgraduate year. The elementary program, grades 2-6, consists of day students only. Those in grades 7-PG are accepted as day, five-day boarding, and full boarding students.
A typical Kildonan student has average to above average IQ scores, has difficulty in decoding, spelling, and writing skills, and often has difficulty processing language at a normal rate.
The School cannot accept students who have non-verbal learning disabilities, primary emotional or behavioral issues, Asperger’s Syndrome, Bi-polar Disorder, or pervasive Developmental Disorder. A full psychological/educational evaluation no more than 3 years old is required for all applicants.
Kildonan offers a college preparatory curriculum and full athletic and equestrian programs. Skiing and snowboarding are an integral part of the winter program.
If your child meets the above criteria, please complete the Request for Admission Packet form or call the Admissions Office at 845-373-8111.
