Ski/Snowboard Program

The Ski and Snowboard program is part of a long-standing tradition at the Kildonan School. During the winter term, all students spend 8 consecutive Thursdays with Kildonan faculty at Ski Butternut in Great Barrington, MA. Students of all skill levels participate in the program, and many are novices learning to ski and snowboard for the first time. Students are grouped into lessons based on their experience and ability. Lessons are conducted in the morning, taught by Kildonan faculty. Students with little to no experience on the slopes (novice) receive three, one-hour lessons; students with developing skills receive two, one-hour lessons; students with proficient skills take a single one-hour lesson; and those students that progress to the exemplary skill level have the option to attend advanced lessons and/or serve as peer mentors. In the afternoon, students are given time to practice independently on the many trails at Butternut.

The Ski and Snowboard program is a substantial component of the Kildonan experience. The process of learning and developing this challenging skill allows students to foster self-confidence and pride in themselves. Students enjoy the time outdoors and staying active during the long winter months. Most of all, the program is fun and memorable, with each student walking away with a shared, positive, healthy experience that often becomes a new lifelong passion.

Killington Ski Trip

The Killington Ski Trip is a favorite among past and present Kildonan students. During the final week of the winter term, students in grades 7-12 have the opportunity to travel to Rutland, VT for a week of skiing and riding at Killington Mountain. Students return from the experience feeling a strong sense of community and accomplishment.
