In addition to yearly gifts to the Annual Fund, there is a need for capital giving to support specific capital campaign projects and programs that cannot be covered through annual giving and the annual budget. Capital gifts consist of one-time or multi-year donations to increase endowment, build or improve facilities, and other projects as approved by the Board of Trustees.
The welfare of the students and the future of the school require planning and setting goals, especially those that will improve the education, facilities, welfare, and daily lives of our students. Those of you who already have so generously contributed and helped to raise funds for the new athletic center will be pleased to know that your gifts have enabled the Board to proceed with plans for this new facility.
After a careful review of endowment, capital campaign funds, and priorities, the trustees approved extending the building campaign to include another critical need, a new dining hall. The trustees are committed to personally raising $500,000; another $270,000 in donations is needed to see the campaign through to completion. Raising funds for Phase II of the capital campaign, a swimming pool at the athletic facility, has not been forgotten and will continue until that component, too, becomes a reality.
This is the largest and most exciting project in Kildonan history. The school has long had the reputation of being the best educational placement for children with learning disabilities arising from dyslexia and enrollment has expanded beyond the capacity of our aging gymnasium and dining hall. With a new gym, athletic offerings can be expanded and updated, especially in the winter months. Students at all levels, elementary, middle, and high school, will have a place to practice, play, and have fun throughout the year. A new dining hall means a larger, more comfortable, congenial, convenient, and up to date space for students and faculty to enjoy their meals.
