Study Halls

During each academic day, students have opportunities to practice and apply their math skills.  In the High School, students have a daily daytime study hall, proctored by a faculty member, where they are provided with a structure and setting conducive to independent mathematics work.

In addition, boarding students in the Middle and High School have a supervised, structured study hall each evening except Saturday.  The majority of the work students complete Monday through Thursday evenings comes directly from their Orton-Gillingham tutor and is meant to provide students with opportunities to practice, reinforce, and apply the skills they are working on each day.  Weekend study halls are devoted exclusively to assignments given in history, literature, and science classes.

Evening study halls are proctored by faculty members and students are assigned a specific room/level for their evening study period.  Those assignments are based on student skill level, expected need for proctor assistance, and focus.  The evening study halls range from highly supervised to independent room study, which may be earned after meeting and maintaining a serious set of criteria.  Middle School study hall is from 7:00 - 8:30 pm Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 - 9:30 pm on Friday, and from 7:00 - 9:00 pm on Sunday.  High School study hall is from 7:00 - 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 - 9:30 pm on Friday, and from 7:00 - 9:00 pm on Sunday.  Students who are not on campus for Friday evening study hall are expected to complete approximately one hour of work before they attend Sunday evening study hall.

Elementary students have a 45-minute period daily devoted to completing individualized assignments given by their tutors and supervised by a trained teacher/tutor.
