Upper School Effort System
The effort system encourages students to develop responsible social behavior. Students can earn increasing privileges and independence through a system of application and evaluation. The application and independence process includes a personal statement by the students describing how they demonstrated responsible behavior and why they believe that they should move up in the system. Students are also required to obtain signatures from their teachers, dorm masters, and others. This requirement allows school personnel to vouch for, and comment on, the students' behavior. Applications are reviewed by a committee of teachers and administrators who take the students' disciplinary record and effort surveys completed by students' teachers into consideration.
New students to Kildonan start on Level One of the Effort System, returning students maintain the level they earned in the spring when they return in the fall. Students can apply to move up in the Effort System at regular increments throughout the school year.
