Ski/Snowboard Program

During the winter term at Kildonan, Upper School students (grades 7-12) participate in a Ski and Snowboard program at Ski Butternut in Great Barrington, MA. The program encourages a healthy lifestyle and allows students to get outdoors and stay active during the long winter months.
Every Thursday during the winter term, students and faculty travel to Butternut for a morning of lessons and afternoon of practice time. Students of all levels of ability participate in the program, and many are novices learning to ski or snowboard for the first time. Students are grouped into lessons based on their experience and ability. Lessons are taught by Kildonan teachers, expert-level students, and/or Butternut instructors.
During the final week of the winter term, the Upper School travels to Rutland, VT for four days of skiing and riding at Killington Mountain. The trip is a favorite among Kildonan students who return from the experience feeling a strong sense of community and accomplishment.
The Ski and Snowboard Program is a substantial component of the Kildonan experience. The process of learning and developing this challenging skill allows students to foster self-esteem and pride in themselves. The program is challenging, fun, and memorable, and each student walks away with a shared positive, healthy experience (not to mention a new lifetime hobby)!
The elementary school ski/skate parent-run, school funded program gives students the option of either skiing/snowboarding one afternoon for six weeks in the winter or skating.
