Art & Music

Time is allotted in the academic day for activities we consider to be vital parts of our curriculum. All students and teachers participate in a five to ten minute music activity every day at our opening meeting. During these sessions, students are introduced to increasingly sophisticated music, much of which becomes part of musical presentations at special events. While the children take pleasure in singing, they are also receiving a carefully crafted, sequential, multi-sensory course in music theory and appreciation. In music classes, students compose melodies for recorders and learn tempo and rhythm on percussion instruments.

We also schedule music and art classes throughout the day; art is often a component of subject matter classes. For the many students with dyslexia who are visually gifted, it is important to have formal instruction to develop fully that form of expression. At the same time, it is important for those lacking strong visual sense to have an opportunity to expand their modes of interpreting the world.
