Our Program

Elementary Grades (2-6)

Overview

Shirley Kokesh, the founder and director of the Kildonan Elementary School from 1994-2001, believes that childhood should be a time of joy. She believes that every child at Kildonan can and should have a wonderful time while learning She created, therefore, a school community of joy and celebration. In our community we learn by engaging all our senses: by doing, creating, moving and being still, singing and being quiet, sharing, caring, solving problems, telling stories, taking risks and making efforts, taking trips, imagining, taking charge and being led, and using our minds and our muscles. We believe that the happiness of each student depends on the happiness of all. We are mindful of keeping our community one of mutual respect and support where children can be safe to explore the new and reexamine the old. We believe that children must learn how to think as individuals yet serve the needs of the communities in which they live.
