Our Program

Upper School (Grades 7-12)

History & Social Studies

There are three main goals of the History and Social Studies curriculum at Kildonan: to acquire familiarity and competence with geography and chronology; to develop a continuum of skills from being able to understand and create narrative exposition through competent analysis of various texts and visual materials, to synthesis and support of a thesis; and to engage students in activities and explorations that will help them understand themselves and the interconnected world in which they live.

At all levels of the curriculum, multi-sensory activities are designed so that students can use their strengths as learners to reinforce skills that are being developed in the language tutorial. Differentiated assignments allow students to respond at individual levels. All students are expected to engage in critical and creative thinking, learn to solve problems cooperatively, and develop facility in communicating ideas and information.

Students Talk about Their Experiences at Kildonan

The first value that comes to mind when I think of Kildonan is community. A group of students all living together and all dyslexic. Everyone has problems, but here were all work together to correct them. We are all walking down the same road, and we never feel alone. There is always someone to talk to, to help you and to get you through the day. It is more like a family than a school. All you have to do is let them accept you. You can live life freely, and express who you really are. Kildonan helped me live. It helped me find who I truly am.
