Beginning in Fall 2018 The Kildonan School with offer Saturday Institutes to our boarding high school and middle school students (middle school attendance is optional and based on their status as full or 5-day boarding students, day students may also attend (fee to be determined)). The Institutes will be held on Saturday mornings and will be an offering of a wide variety of special interest programming and community service opportunities. Students will select from a catalog of 4 Institute options per session, one of which will be a community service option.
Possible institutes include:
Health and Wellness/Life Skills: Learn techniques for life-long health including yoga, nutrition, and exercise that will benefit you now and in the future. The Life Skills portion of this offering includes personal finance, general cooking and automotive care.
How to Speak French Food: This hands-on, workshop-style course will offer skills and knowledge in basic french cooking.
Eco-horticulture: As our Technological world develops faster than ever maintaining a connection to nature has never been more important. A course will be offered to help encourage interaction and appreciation as well as inspire curiosity about the natural world around us. The goal is to work with the students in an activity based curriculum that will enhance the environment of the school around them. The study and application of horticulture, nature observation, ecology, biodiversity, and environmentalism will be the key concepts the unit will address.
Classic Car Restoration: Learn automotive care and restoration.
Digital publishing, media and yearbook: Students will create content and layout for the Kildonan Magazine, website blogs, and the School’s Instagram and FaceBook accounts. They will also manage the production and publication of the yearbook

Art: Studio time for dedicated artists
Theater: We have a theater professional willing to develop a theater troupe for Kildonan that would meet for a full day on Saturdays throughout the year and produce a show in the spring. Contracting with this professional would require extra cost for those dedicated to involvement.
